Machine tools are crucial drivers of industrial civilization. Edward Yang, Chairman of Taiwan's leading machine tool manufacturer GOODWAY Group, states, “Opportunity always favors the prepared.” Facing a global industrial downturn, the GOODWAY Group is maintaining a strategy this year: expanding production capacity, promoting high-end 5-axis machines, and strengthening supply chain cooperation. These efforts are aimed at ensuring stable operational growth for the group.

Edward Yang stated that the GOODWAY Group's investment in the research and development of various 5-axis machines has begun to show results. GOODWAY has developed the latest GMT-2000 five-axis multi-tasking machines, and AWEA has developed the AU-680 five-axis machining centers, along with SWISS Turning Centers, multi-tasking machines, five-axis bridge type machining centers, horizontal boring mills, and intelligent control systems equipped with AI artificial intelligence.

He highlighted that the GOODWAY GMT-2000 multi-tasking machine is equipped with B-axis milling spindle, lower turret, and twin workpiece spindles. It boasts 9 axes control, 5 axes simultaneous cutting capabilities, enabling it to complete processes that previously required two to three machines. This machine can handle any complex workpiece, making it one of the highest-end models on the market. Its powerful machining performance has made it a favorite of leading domestic aerospace company and automotive component manufacturer

Additionally, the final round of the 13th National Chung Hsing University and GOODWAY Group capstone competition for “Precision Machine Tools and Intelligent Manufacturing Technology” was held at GOODWAY's CTSP Branch. Teams from universities across Taiwan, along with teams from Japan and South Korea, participated in the finals. The total prize money for the competition reached NT$1.4 million, with the top prize being NT$500,000, leading to fierce competition.

This competition and award are jointly organized by Edward Yang, Chairman of GOODWAY Group, his alma mater National Chung Hsing University, and CTSP Industry-Academia Association. The goal is to advance Taiwan's machine tool and intelligent manufacturing technologies, foster innovative research, encourage talented individuals to enter this field, and ultimately enhance the global competitiveness of the machine tool industry.

Edward Yang pointed out that the competition has become a major annual event for universities both domestically and internationally. The GOODWAY Group has sponsored and organized the event since its second iteration, now in its 13th year. Despite the recent downturn in the machine tool industry, with frequent news of small and medium-sized machine tool manufacturers looking to sell, he anticipates a gradual recovery in the machine tool industry's economic outlook in the first quarter of next year, contingent on the US presidential election being settled and the potential end of the Russia-Ukraine war. He expects next year's market to be better than this year's.
