To advance machine tool and intelligent manufacturing technology, foster innovative research, and encourage top talent to enter the industry, Taiwanese machine tool leader GOODWAY Group has partnered with National Chung Hsing University. Together, they recently held the final round of the 13th GOODWAY capstone competition for “Precision Machine Tools and Intelligent Manufacturing Technology” on October 12th at GOODWAY's CTSP Branch.
This capstone competition not only trains students in creative thinking, organizational design, teamwork, planning, integration, and practical skills, but also emphasizes the importance of both theory and practice. Through the competition, students gain opportunities for inter-school learning and observation, fostering their abilities in system design, integration, and innovation. This initiative will help the industry cultivate talent from the ground up, working together to nurture the next generation of outstanding professionals.
This marks the 13th year of this capstone competition. The GOODWAY Group's cumulative sponsorship of prize money and event expenses has exceeded NT$30 million, demonstrating an outstanding contribution to the development of Taiwan's machine tool industry.
Chairman Edward Yang of GOODWAY Group stated that this competition has become an annual event for mechanical engineering departments in Taiwan. This year, teams from Nagoya University in Japan and Yonsei University in South Korea were invited to participate, providing students with more opportunities for international learning and exchange.
In his speech, Chairman Yang also encouraged the students, recalling his graduation from National Chung Hsing University's mechanical engineering department in 1969. In 1971, he entered the machine tool industry, " He admitted that founding the GOODWAY Group was challenging, but years of hard work have secured the group a place in the global market. Every industry, including the booming semiconductor sector, relies on machine tools; every precision component in their machinery and equipment requires processing by machine tools. He stated it's no exaggeration to say that machine tools are another “sacred mountain” protecting Taiwan. He believes the Taiwanese machine tool industry still holds immense potential and a promising future, and he hopes more talented young people will join it.
Vice President Ching-piao Tsai of National Chung Hsing University also stated that machine tools are fundamental to all industries, essential for producing even the most precise products. He emphasized that the purpose of hosting machine tool practical competitions is to provide students with more hands-on experience, stimulating innovative and research ideas. He expressed deep gratitude to Chairman Edward Yang for his selfless dedication over the past 13 years, recognizing him as a successful entrepreneur who has invested immense effort into industrial development. Chairman Yang's down-to-earth, diligent, and pragmatic spirit, evident since the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey, truly serves as an excellent role model for young people.
